Bag It Up

This morning before orientation I went to the canteen to get a quick bite. I ordered an orange and a coffee and the lady asked me if I wanted it to-go, and I said ya fa sho fa sho. (Daniel and I have decided to speak in a thick ghetto slang so that others can't understand us because everyone here speaks at least two languages except us and we get syphoned out of conversations sometimes when a native tongue pops up. Not no more, son!)
So I was seriously perplexed when I saw the lady poor my coffee into a BAG, and when she handed it to me I pinched it between two fingers and extended my arm, staring at it in amazement. After it registered I drank it, and that was that. You wouldn't believe me unless I took a picture.
On to my dorm. It's like any other dorm room I guess. Small. I have no a/c, but if you stay completely still it's not that bad.
My roommate is an Italian guy named Vittorio. He's cool, but not pictured.
This is the view out my front door.
And down the hall.

The courtyard.
Orientation was a good chance to meet some other people. Out of the 280 international students that were there this morning, 8--including the 6 SDSU students--were from the USA. Vastly outnumbered but you better believe I'll be rockin the Red White & Blue come 08.08.08!

*Speaking of Beijing, how's it going Jamie?

Awesome Architecture

This campus is 100x nicer than I ever imagined. It's surrounded by thick forrest and there are plants and trees everywhere. Just green all over.
As we were wandering the huge campus yesterday we came across this building and it's one of the most original that I've ever seen. Have a look.

Ya that's grass on the roof! How the hell do they mow that? It's a pretty steep incline so I really wonder how they keep it trimmed. It's real grass too, we walked to the top last night.
We have international student orientation in the morning so that should be good. More pictures and stories tomorrow of my dorm, etc.

Baller Pad

I just got to Singapore and it's pretty sticky, but I'm settling into the dorm just fine. I'll post more about NTU later, but now for the Baller Pad back in Bangkok.
Steve's friend Mike who spent the weekend at Koh Samet with us is doing the same internship that Steve did at the American Chamber of Commerce. Well, the whole time we were on the island he was telling us about this Super Crib that he was staying at. (It belongs to a family friend).
So Daniel and I were at a mall the day after we got back from Koh Samet and we ran into Mike, who offered to take us back to the place he was staying for some beers.

I took a little video of the pool too, check it out.

Corona Commercial

I must say that getting out of the city and onto an island (Koh Samet) was the remedy. We did absolutely nothing but so much at the same time. Ya feel me?
Early that morning we took a cab to Steve and Ida's high-rise apartment. Here's the view from their balcony.

From the apartment we grabbed some chicken and sticky rice and went to the bus station. The bus is crazy; it literally takes everyone to their house before it reaches the destination. It sucks. We stopped about 4,221 times and it took forever. A snapshot of the changing landscape from my seat.
After we reached the pier we learned that the fairy doesn't leave until there are 20 people ready to board the boat. Sweet. We just took a long-ass bus ride, now we have to wait for 16 more people to show up before we can leave. A couple pics from the pier I took trying to kill some time.

At last! On the fairy with beer in-hand. We're happy.
Ida is Thai and she was invaluable on this trip. She did everything, seriously all we did was follow her and she saved us from tourist rip-offs and found us good food on menus we couldn't read. Thanks Ida!
I've been to many beaches and this one is the best I've ever been to. Hands down. White sand, warm clear-blue water, and a jungle.

At night like 10 guys do a fire show on the beach where they dip both ends of a stick in kerosine and do all sorts of tricks with it. It looks awesome and it made for some good pics.

Here's our hotel.

This dog came with us on one of our hikes. (There are stray dogs everywhere in Thailand, even on the islands.) She was a cool mutt.
I've just uploaded a few videos from Koh Samet so click through on those too. We're in a hostel with wireless right now so I'll try and post one more before we leave for Singapore tomorrow!
Take care people and thanks for reading.

Island-Bound

I finally found Steve! We're going to some island I can't pronounce/locate on a map bright and early tomorrow morning. We won't be back until Sunday night so obviously there won't be anything new on SingaporeUSA until then. Go on eBay or something. Until then...

The Bangkok Experience

Pictures! Apparently all I had to do was plug my camera into this USB port. Ooooooohhhhhh ya.
Here are a few from last night and the day before.

I've uploaded some videos of us on our preferred mode of transportation: The tuk tuk. Check those out as well.
More when I can.
*Sonny how are my fantasy teams lookin guy? I hope you're starting my pitchers and what not or else we can't be friends anymore. Leave a comment and let me know.
